dear friends and colleagues in tropical medicine,

What does tropical medicine mean today?

The very term invites us to reflect. Our discipline has a history that is inextricably linked to colonialism and the crimes of National Socialism. Acknowledging this past and critically reflecting on it are integral to our professional identity and to our responsibility for the future.

At the same time, tropical medicine today is a field of extraordinary dynamism and societal relevance. Few areas of medicine demonstrate the impact of global change as directly as ours: climate change is reshaping the epidemiology of infectious diseases, while political crises and migration present us with new medical and humanitarian challenges. Infectious Diseases and Global Health, Parasitology and Travel Medicine, health equity and humanitarian assistance – all these facets come together in modern tropical medicine.

Acknowledging the Past, Stepping up to the Future – guided by this principle, we warmly invite you to join us in Würzburg for the Annual Scientific Meeting of the German Society for Tropical Medicine, Travel Medicine and Global Health (DTG) – CTM2027.

From 17 to 20 March 2027, we will come together at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg to discuss current developments, explore new perspectives and learn from one another. Together with our partner professional societies, we want to showcase the broad spectrum of tropical medicine, travel medicine and global health while also looking ahead: Where does our field stand today? What responsibilities do we have? And how do we want to shape the tropical medicine of the future?

Alongside a diverse scientific programme, you can look forward to inspiring encounters and an engaging social programme. Above all, however, we want to create space for what makes a scientific conference truly meaningful: personal exchange, stimulating and controversial discussions, new ideas, and the joy of advancing science together – the “Beauty of Science.”
